How does one change device host name?

$

WiFi - under connected devices my iPhone is just listed as "iPhone" whereas it has a unique name in the iPhone settings>general>about>name.

I have tried rebooting the Spectrum Technicolor modem as well as my iPhone.

Is there any way to edit this name so it shows up as the unique name I want it to have in my modem (in the connected devices list)?

Fast 5260 & changing DNS server

I’ve found the location displaying the DNS server for the 5260, but I can’t change the setting. I’ve read elsewhere online this setting can’t be changed AT ALL. Can someone confirm this for me?

Is the only solution to use a different router?

I am wanting to host a game server on my pc but the ports i need won't open. I have the Arris TM1602 modem and Sagemcom Fast 5260 wireless router which was provided by Spectrum. I did port forwarding on the router also set the inbound and outbound rules as well on my pc still the ports will not open so does anybody have any suggestion on what I could be doing wrong. I am wired straight to the roughter by the way.

TC8715D Concerns

I have the TC8715D Modem, and no additional device (i.e. router/switch).  Internet comes into my house straight into this box, and then it handles the routing and firewall for the home network.

I also have a rule forwarding port 2202 to a local IP address.  Which was working swimmingly for a while, but has since stopped.  I've reset the router a couple times (not factory, just power-cycled, really) and the functionality has still not returned.

Fearing that 2202 may have been thrown on some kind of 'no-fly zone' by Spectrum, or fallen under some other kind of arbitrary ruling I wouldn't even begin to know where to look to find, I modified the listening port on the local device to use 3636.  Then, back in the Port Forwarding, modified the rule to use that port instead.

In the Troubleshooting > Firewall Logs > Today, I see that the request is being explicitly Denied by the router.  Now I know it's not something with the local device, but I cannot - for the life of me - figure out why it's Denying access despite the Port Forwarding rule set to Allow it.

So...I figured, I would delete the Port Forwarding rule (along with some older ones that have been disabled for a long time, and I do not need anymore).  But when I try to delete a Port Forwarding rule, I get the following error message:

Error Converting one or more entries:

Error: Modem is in bridge mode, creating/removing the port forwarding rule are prohibited.

TRY AGAIN.

Now...oddly enough, I would get this error message for ANY rule I tried to delete over the past few days troubleshooting.  But just now, when I went to replicate the error for accuracy in this post, I was able to delete 2 rules before getting the error on my 3rd attempt.

Why is this modem in bridge mode?  What is it bridged with?  I have no other devices.  Furthermore, why is it blocking a port I've explicitly told it to allow?

Google searches haven't turned up much (other than a response from Spectrum support explaining that it's a better idea to dump your local device into the DMZ than to forward a port or two - which is...awe-inspiring), so I figured I'd check in these forums before engaging phone support, in case some magnificent person happened to be strolling through with just the answer I needed.

Many thanks in advance!

Several large usage spikes

I was looking at my internet usage details and one Sunday this month, 150 GB of braodband was used from midnight to 1 am.  There was no one in the house at that time.  This afternoon, 20 GB of broadband was used between 4 pm and 5 pm.  We were home, but neither of us was using any devices.  This is way out of line from any other time.  Any suggestions or recommendations?  Thank You.

MoCA network in an apartment building?

$

I would like to use a MoCA network adapter like the Actiontec ECB6200 to extend my LAN over the coaxial wires in my apartment and avoid WiFi.

I live in a 16-unit apartment building, there are three coaxial jacks in my apartment and I have internet service only with a Motorola SB6121 modem connected to one of those coax jacks. Unfortunately I don't know exactly how the coaxial is wired behind the drywalls and I don't even know where the point of entry into my apartment is (for all I know, I could be sharing a splitter with other apartments).

I know there are several potential barriers to getting a MoCA network functioning in a situation like this, but I have one specific question that I asked a chat support rep, and I'm not sure his answer is correct so I'd like to get anyone's input here.

I believe a MoCA filter is generally placed at a cable subcriber's point of entry, to prevent MoCA signals from getting out. According to the support rep, that is not possible in an apartment building. He stated, "We have a Tap at your locations outside, and we will provide the connection to each apartment without any interlinks between any two apartments."

He said that the tap outside has a filter on it, and "based on the services configured it will distribute the signals". When I asked him to confirm that it wouldn't be possible for data packets on my LAN to travel over the coaxial wire outside of my apartment, he said "Signals will not leak from your service line to any of the systems."

Does what the support rep told me make sense? Thanks for any info, I have tried to read up on this, but this isn't something I know a great deal about.

I have Time Warner's Ultimate 300 Extreme 300 internet package and wondering if I need to upgrade? This is my personally owned cable modem and wondering if I'm leaving anything on the table continuing to use it?

Any thoughts?

After speaking with TWC technical support a couple of days ago, they noted that there was an acknowledged nationwide issue between TWC internet and Apple Airport wifi routers.  The tech support person noted that it was a high priority effort to be solved.

It's now 3 days late and router still can't connect to internet-anyone else having this problem?

Wireless printer

Hi:

Just purchased a Canon wirless printer. When I turn it on, it takes about 15-20 minutes to connect although the signal strength is about 78-80%. Anyone know what the problem is? Checked all settings, and there is nothing left to check. Called Spectrum, and they were a little stumped. (Canon says printer is fine) Should I swap out the modem?

Thanx

Router settings?

Just had Spectrum installed at the house.  I am using my Netgear CM400 cable modem, and internet works fine, when I connect directly to it.  Now I want to hook up my Linksys E7300 router, which was previously hooked to a DSL modem.

Is there a list of the settings I need to use?

I'm speculating the Internet Connection Type should be:

Automatic Configuration – DHCP

Do I need to clone the MAC of the laptop that was hooked up directly, when this was setup?

Logging into the Technicolor TC4400 D3.1 modem

I just upgraded to Gig Service and it's been a good experience so far. The only area I'm struggling with is logging into the the Technicolor TC4400 using the standard name and password to verify a few settings as well as monitor signal status (if available).

When I called, no one at Spectrum support could access the modem. They asked me to reset it to factory default and even after doing so, neither they nor I could access the modem using what are belived to be the standard name and password (admin/password). They sent out a field tech, he could not do it either.

Has anyone been able to login into the the Technicolor TC4400 D3.1 modem? If so what name and password did you use?

DHCP lease renewal for wired devices-Sagemcom 5260

$

I have a Sagemcom 5260 router that works well, but I'm having one issue.  As the subject line states, I'm having issues with the renewal of DHCP leases only for wired devices.  In my case, that would be my Apple TV, TV, and receiver.  Every week, on Sunday, all of the devices that are plugged into one of the router's ethernet ports loses the internet connection.  The only solution I have found is to reset the router by unplugging it.

I have gone into the router's settings and tried to increase the amount of time for lease renewal, but the problem persists.  I have assigned each device their own IP address, but that did not work either.

If anyone else has any other suggestions it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Spectrum Gig installed now Can't watch Spectrum TV App. Router issue?

So yesterday I got Spectrum Gig installed with a Technicolor TC4400 modem and they gave me a Askey Router rac2v1k. With everytihing hooked up and running none of my devices on wifi or connected to the router won't load all the channels in the Spectrum app. It says "Please connect to Spectrum internet" As if I was away from home.

Now, if I connected my PC directly to the cable modem via Ethernet no router it works perfect online. I can see all channels. Is there some DNS issue with my router??

Thanks!

Upgrade to 400mbps expectations?

$

Hello, I scheduled to set up new internet service at a new apartment at the end of July and choose the available 400x20 ultra plan for 73 and some change a month. I am currently on 200mbps and using spectrums ubee dvw32c1. I’m upgrading because I game a lot, and my wife and I have a lot of devices hooked up on WiFi at once. Talking to the rep when setting up, he said that they will be providing a modem and a router because they found out a combo does not do well on 400+. He did assure me there would be no extra modem or router charge on my bill.

Some questions...

what modem & router will they probably supply? I don’t see any equipment they provide that’s rated over 300 except for the technicolor tc4400 for gig.

Will the modem automatically be bridged or will I need to ask for that?

Will their modem & router be good enough for me? Or in your experiences?

If you do suggest getting a customer owned modem and/or router, what do you recommend?

How reliable is the advertised speed of 400 on your experience?

Anything I should look out for when the tech sets everything up and/ or after?

Thanks!

Accessing home network externally.

I am trying to setup some home security and be able to access it from outside my home through internet connection.

Items on the network:

  1. Time Warner (Spectrum) modem
  2. Netgear Wireless Router
  3. Raspberry Pi.
  4. Personal Computer

Troubleshooting:

  • Verified that all wifi devices on network are able to access internet - successful
  • Verified that all ethernet device on network are able to access internet - successful
  • Verified that all devices are able to read/write/share data across internal network. - successful
  • After each change in setting both router and modem were rebooted.
  • Setup port forwarding on router
    • obtained modem address via https://whatismyipaddress.com/
    • set port forwarding to internal network device on router.
      • Wifi connected device.
        • attempted to access using external ip address
          • on non-standard tcp/udp port (48461) - failed
          • using standard tcp/udp port (21/22/23/80/443) - failed
      • Ethernet connected device
        • attempted to access using external ip address
          • on non-standard tcp/udp port (48461) - failed
          • using tandard tcp/udp port (21/22/23/80/443) - failed

My guess is that the TWC/Spectrum modem does not allow inbound traffic that is not specifically allowed via the ISP.    Any confirmation of this or any ideas on what I'm failing to do or setup is greatly appreciated.

no access to my own internal server

Hi,

I have an Arris modem and a Sagemcom Fasst 5260 router. I'm running a test server in my home and the server is on the dmz. From any network, other than my home network, the server can be accessed, no problem, via it's external IP or the subdomain I pointed to it. I can't even ping it's external IP/subdomain from within my home network.

If I try to access it via my internal network, 192.168.1.x, it works perfectly.

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks!

Rob
